CBD is a Black Swan
What is a Black Swan? Have you ever seen a Black Swan? A black swan is an unpredictable event that is beyond what is normally expected of a situation and has potentially severe consequences, negative or positive. Black swan events are characterized by their extreme rarity, severe impact, and the widespread insistence they were obvious in 20/20 hindsight.
While black swan events are most associated with the financial world, there are plenty of examples of black swan events in our everyday lives. A common misconception about black swan events is that they are always negative events, but that is not always the case as I will show in today’s Cannabis world. The primary characteristic of black swan events is their unpredictability, not that they are negative or positive in nature.
A black swan is an extremely rare event with severe outcomes. It cannot be predicted beforehand, though many claim it should be predictable after the fact. Black swan events can cause catastrophic damage to an economy, and because they cannot be predicted, can only be prepared for by building robust systems in the financial world.
I have had several personal Black Swan events in my lifetime which have had dramatic effects on the twist and turns that my life has taken. However, I am going to focus on three that have governed my professional life.
First, my sojourn in orthopedics started when I did and participated in the very first arthroscopic examination ever done at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital dating back to 1972. What was so crazy about that event is that we were using the 1959 arthroscope from Japan. However, within two years arthroscopic examinations became a critical part of the diagnostic procedure in orthopedics and many other forms of surgery.
The second event while at the University of Pennsylvania was as a research fellow. In 1976, my experimentation with electrically induced osteogenesis would change the way the fractures of the skeletal system would be treated in the future.
The third event came via a family reunion where the Hemp resurgence market was being looked at and I joined with a family member to create a company known as Hemp Commodity Industries. Our initial planning was to grow hemp for the purpose of obtaining cannabidiol (CBD) for orthopedic research.
This last event has become very much of a Black Swan because I am not sure whether we could have predicted or could have expected the monumental surge that cannabidiol (CBD) has played in America’s health by taking a Daily Dose of Wellness. However, a lot of this Black Swan phenomena was hinged on something that was well known but not disseminated. This unknown was called the Endocannabinoid System of the body, setting in plain view.
What is the Endocannabinoid System? This is another topic that needs to be explored as a Black Swan, but the most important factor in this writing is to understand that through the 30 years that it took to formulate the Endocannabinoid System many other treatment modalities have been related to and are activated through this biological system.
Cannabis sativa L is a plant that has been in existence for more than 8000 years so how can it become a Black Swan? As noted above, a Black Swan is an event that is unexpected and usually financial in makeup. Both attributes contribute to this CBD Black Swan.
This CBD Black Swan had me move from being an orthopedic surgeon to becoming a hemp farmer. I used the same principle I used in mastering surgery, “see one, do one and teach one”. I approached this criminal emerging market of cannabis because of that earlier Black Swan in my life, that I was part of, dating back to my research days at Penn.
What I learned studying and becoming interested in the cannabis plant is that the vital cannabinoids in this plant had some bone-stimulating capabilities. And, as an orthopedic surgeon, I realized I understood through my orthopedic sojourn that osteoporosis, because of our extended lifespan in aging, that loss of calcium in our skeleton would become a major problem in the 21st century secondary to osteoporotic fractures. Therefore, you need your Daily Dose of Wellness, and it can be obtained at www.dailyvitamincbd.com. Say hello to the Black Swan when you do so!
Please and thank you.
